A YOUNG widow and her two-year-old son took part in a colourful tribute to her late husband in Blackburn.
Bilal Lorgat died of cancer, aged 28, last year and his friends and family, including wife Yasmine, 27, and son Ray, two, completed a fancy dress sponsored walk at Witton Park yesterday.
Mr Lorgat’s father, Salim, a councillor on Blackburn with Darwen Council, described his son as a “bubbly, popular character” whose death had devastated the whole family.
Friends and relatives of Bilal, who lived in Lynwood Road, Blackburn, and was a former Beardwood School and Blackburn College student, have launched a fundraising campaign in his name with the total already well over £1,000.
Yesterday’s event saw some 50 supporters take place in the event. It was organised by colleagues of Mrs Lorgat, who work at BT in Jubilee Street, Blackburn.
Organiser Carmel Ellicott said: “We just wanted to do something to boost the profile of the charity locally and support Yasmine. It was a fun event with a lot of colour.”
The proceeds from the fundraising campaign will be donated to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
