POLLING stations are open across East Lancashire until 10pm.

Reporter Catherine Pye went to a polling station at St Barnabas Community Centre in Johnson Street, Blackburn, and saw a steady stream of voters.

Former Burnley MP Peter Pike said he was hearing reports of a strong turnout as he set off to help at the polling station in the town.

And his sentiments were echoed by Lib Dem David Foster, who has spent the morning at a polling station on Bolton Road in Darwen.

According to reports, rain is not putting off East Lancashire residents from voting.

Rossendale & Darwen Impact Party candidate Tony Melia said: "I've just been to Holy Trinity Church in Darwen and more than 100 people have already voted - last time that would have been about 20 or 30."

Nationally, there is more uncertainty about who will emerge as Prime Minister than in any election since 1992 and a strong possibility of a hung parliament for the first time since 1974.

You must go to the polling station printed on your polling card.

You do not need to take your polling card to the station, but it can speed things up if you do.

If you have not received a polling card, you can still vote – as long as you are on the electoral register.
