Tender Trap is the latest incarnation of Amelia Fletcher and friends, who have been making melodic indie since the 1980s as twee-pop trailblazers Talulah Gosh. Have they made a rap-metal departure from the formula?
Well No. Fans can be assured that their music is still as simple and sweet as sherbet.
Amelia Fletcher's voice is still as gorgeous as ever, and Tender Trap sees a return to the poppier, pre-Heavenly/Marine Research years of naive lyrics and musical arrangements.
This disc is all different types of very nice. There are perky, jerky moments on Applecore, cute, catchy moments on title track 6 Billion People and even a little melodrama on (I Always Love You When I'm) Leaving You.
6 Billion People was never likely to be a particularly thrilling or original album, but it does encourage a genuine gentle smile. The queen of twee is back: whisper it!
Released June 5, 2006
