TV licensing officers will be out in force across Lancashire today in a bid to catch evaders tuning into England's match against Jamaica.
And the officers have pledged to carry on targeting the region throughout the World Cup as football fans tune into games.
TV Licensing chiefs are warning unlicensed football fans that they could face a stiff penalty if caught offside' watching matches without a valid licence.
During Euro 2004, over 930 evaders were caught in Lancashire.
TV Licensing's database of over 28 million addresses shows Enquiry Officers which properties have no record of a TV licence, so they know exactly where to aim their visits.
If caught, evaders risk a trip to court and a fine of up to £1,000.
Deborah Copeland, spokesperson for TV Licensing North, said: "Don't risk getting a knock on your door just as that vital goal is about to be scored.
"Anyone intending to watch the matches without a licence should think again.
"Our Enquiry Officers will be out on the streets during all the England games.
"They work at all times of the day, so whatever time the games kick-off, people should make sure they are properly licensed so that they don't score an own goal."
Mrs Copeland added: "Last year, on average, we caught over 1,000 licence fee evaders a day from all walks of life. Anyone caught risks prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000, plus court costs and they still have to pay for a TV licence if they need one."
