AN ALCOHOLIC "drank herself to death," an East Lancashire inquest decided.
Patricia Dale, 60, of Whitegate Gardens, Padiham, had been dead in bed for a number of days before she was discovered by police on January 17.
The alarm was raised after she had not been seen by friends for around five days.
In a statement to the inquest her son Simon Thompson, who lives in London, said she had been battling the booze since her 20s.
He said she would drink for a few months and then receive help from Alcoholics Anonymous and stop for a short while before starting to drink again.
East Lancashire Coroner Richard Taylor said: "She would normally drink cider but an empty bottle of Bacardi was found in her flat.
"It appears that Mrs Dale, having started drinking again, maybe didn't appreciate the higher alcohol level."
The coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
