AN event celebrating the life of Lord Nelson in the town that bears his name is set to become a permanent fixture in its calendar.
Following the success of last year's Trafalgar Day those behind the event in Nelson want to make the celebration an annual occasion.
Organisers are about to start preparing for a similar event this year celebrating the life of Horatio Nelson.
Bradley ward councillor, Donna Caley, who was behind Trafalgar Day, said the event could become known as Nelson Day but a final decision still had to be made.
She said: "Last year was a one-off event but we hope to turn it into an annual event.
We are about to start organising this year's event and we want to make it bigger and better.
"My aim is to get Nelson on the map. There are a lot of things in the pipeline but nothing in terms of entertainment."
The organising committee are about to submit a funding bid to the council for £12,000 to help organise the day.
They are also contemplating bringing the day forward from October to September to avoid the wet weather.
Last year thousands of people descended on Nelson to join in a day of entertainment marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar when the British beat the French and Spanish fleets which made Admiral Lord Nelson a national hero.
