A TAXI driver was threatened with a revolver after being called to pick-up a fare.
Police said the 27-year-old driver was called to pick up a passenger in Witton Parade, Blackburn, at 2am yesterday.
But when the fare opened the front passenger door, police said he pointed what they believe to be a firearm in the driver's face and demanded his night's takings.
The City Taxi firm driver tried to grab the revolver from the man, who then fled.
Blackburn detectives said today that this was one of numerous attacks against taxis and their drivers in the town over recent months.
And Nasir Mahmood, of Elite Private Hire, today also spoke out after his brother, Shahid, was allegedly assaulted and two of his cab's windows smashed by thugs.
He was left shaken but escaped serious injury after Saturday night's incident, outside the Clifton Pub in Grimshaw Park.
Mr Mahmood, whose company is based in Moorings Close, said: "There are incidents almost every weekend with taxis getting smashed by youths standing on street corners."
He said a bottle was thrown from a group of drinkers who came out of the Clifton, smashing the passenger side door. Then stones were thrown, smashing the driver's side rear door, he said.
When he got out the car to confront them he was assaulted, he said.
Det Insp Paul Withers from Blackburn CID said: "Throughout this year there have been a number of incidents where taxis and taxi drivers have been targeted.
"The police are working in partnership with local taxi companies and the council in an attempt to limit the risks that taxi drivers face.
"We are investigating both of these incidents and would be keen to speak to anyone who saw a white man, aged about 20, of muscley build and wearing dark clothing in the Witton Parade area."
Anyone with information should call Blackburn police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
