A TESCO baker who smashed a workmate's jaw after he refused to put bread in the oven was given a community order.
Philip Greenwood, 31, and the victim went back a long way and his actions had cost him not only a 14-year career but a friend as well, Burnley magistrates heard.
Greenwood, said to have bullied his colleague in the months leading up to the "unprovoked" attack at the Burnley store, left him struggling to sleep and eat, the court was told.
Greenwood, of Peel Road, Colne, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm following the incident on January 27. He was given a community order with 12 months supervision, 80 hours community service and £443 compensation.
Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, told the court the defendant and victim had known each other for eight years, had worked together at Asda and had been on holiday together.
The court heard that Greenwood asked him to put some bread in the oven and he said he was busy and would do it in a minute.
Greenwood was said to have become aggressive so the victim gently pushed him away, but was then punched in the jaw. Mr Robinson said the victim stumbled and felt dazed. His jaw was found to be broken.
Mark Williams, defending, said Greenwood accepted the blow was out of all proportion to whatever had gone on and he bitterly regretted his actions.
