POLICE today warned youths hurling missiles at cars in Colne to "expect a visit" from officers.

Following a spate of incidents of yobs throwing objects, at cars and taxis in the town under cover police have being driving around hot spot areas.

In the last two weeks alone 16 cabbies have been attacked in incidents which missiles including stones and eggs have been thrown at cars as well as drivers being racially abused and even assaulted.

And now police today revealed they now know the identity gang behind a wave of stoning incidents that have taken place around the Skipton Road and Keighley Road areas.

Sergeant Tom Riley said plain clothed officers had been patrolling the streets leading to a reduction in incidents.

And he said that officers and taxi firms would continue to work together.

He said: "We will continue with this with a view to stamping out any future incidents.

"We believe we know who this group is and they can expect a visit to their home address imminently."

Following the revelation cabbies in Colne threatened to take their cars off the streets as they feared the problems would escalate because of the lighter evenings.

In one of the most serious attacks an Asian driver was racially abused in Salter Avenue after an argument broke out between him and his five passengers over the fare.

He was racially abused and punched twice in the head in the incident which happened around 3.50am on May 1.

Sgt Riley added: "We have got a number of juveniles throwing stones in the Keighley and Skipton Road areas.

"It is a combination of maliciousness and recklessness and it is not acceptable."
