Thunderously good singles are an excellent way to start off a band's career, and Boy Kill Boy made a very good start to theirs with a trio of high-octane floorfillers: Back Again, Suzie and Civil Sin.

A consistently good album is also pretty important, and this indie four-piece certainly deliver unswerving commitment to their modish brand of relentless drums, jerky guitar riffs and synthesizer-led emotional depth.

Boy Kill Boy can certainly deliver fantastically tight tunes, with On and On a storming highlight.

The problem lies in the similarity of the tracks, both to the rest of the album and to other current artists.

As a result, Civilian becomes less and less fun as it continues, sagging under the weight of unfulfilled promise and a blur of recurring songs.
