A ROBBER who mugged a pensioner and failed in another bag snatch attempt was today being hunted by police.
Officers appealed for witnesses in a bid to help catch the mugger who struck in Audley, Blackburn.
On Thursday afternoon the robber approached a woman in her 60s in St. Clement Street and yanked the bag from behind. Police said she tried to keep hold, but was pushed to the floor as the robber forced it free.
He ran off down an alleyway towards Lincoln Close, leaving her injured on the floor.
Detective Sergeant Paul Ryan, of Blackburn CID, said: "The victim was extremely traumatised.She sustained grazing to her knees as a result of being pushed to the floor.
"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or who knows the offender to come forward."
An attempted robbery in Accrington Road, Audley, on Tuesday afternoon is being linked to the St Clement Street mugging.
Police said a woman was approached in an alleyway from behind, but managed to hold on to her bag. The mugger fled empty handed. Officers said the incidents may be linked because both victims had given a similar description of the robber.
He was described as white, in his mid twenties, with stubble and wearing a hooded top.
The bag stolen in Lincoln Close, which contained cash and personal belongings, was a rusty brown colour.
