NEW mums flocked to Blackburn to promote breast feeding in public and create a new British record.
The event, called the "Big Feed", was organised by a group based in Darwen and saw 700 women across the country taking part to score a new record for simultaneous breast feeding.
In Witton Park there were more than 30 mums involved in the unusual stunt on Saturday lunchtime.
Organiser Michelle Atkin, from the Little Angels Breastfeeding Support group, said the record attempt had been a huge success.
She said: "Breastfeeding is not a crime and that is the reason we organised this record attempt.
"We want to raise awareness around breastfeeding in public.
"We want mothers to be comfortable to breastfeed when and where they want to and events like this help to make it more acceptable.
"Nursing your child is the most natural thing in the world and women should not be made to hide away or feel embarr-assed."
Michelle co-ordinated similar events across the UK as part of the record attempt by sending out action packs to help local groups organise their own Big Feed.
The event was being filmed for a documentary which is expected to be shown on Channel Five later this year.
The women in Witton Park were joined by mums at shopping centres and supermarkets across the country to get their point across.
The event coincided with National Breastfeeding Awareness Week, which finished on Saturday with the breastfeeding world record attempt stunt.
