THE Friends of Burnley Wood community group has won a £1,000 grant to encourage youngsters to take more exercise.
The grant has been awarded by Kelloggs Active Living Fund and the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester.
The group applied for the funding with the help of Burnley Council's sport and play development team.
The cash will be used to provide weekly exercise sessions for young people at Burnley Wood Community Centre over the school summer holidays.
Some of the money will also go towards buying new equipment for the group.
Group member Barbara Davies, said: "This is very good news for the Burnley Wood area.
"It will allow children to learn the benefits of physical activity and also provide entertainment over the long summer break.
"We would like to thank Kelloggs and the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester for their donation and also Michelle Grimes, Burnley Council's play development worker, for her support and assistance in obtaining the grant.
"We're delighted to have been able to help the group in this way and we're confident that their work will now bring real benefits to the local community."
