BURNLEY mum Jane Payne, whose body was found in a remote field six weeks after she went missing, was not murdered, police said today.
Police are probing two possibilities about how Miss Payne, who officers said worked as a prostitute when she was short of cash, died.
Police said the first scenario was she had taken a drugs overdose and been moved after the people she was with panicked.
The other theory is she took a client to the remote area for sex and collapsed afterwards due to a medical problem.
Miss Payne's badly decomposed body was discovered by a farmer on Saturday in Boulsworth Farm on the outskirts of Briercliffe.
A post mortem exam-ination proved inconclusive and police were today awaiting toxicology tests.
However they said there were no signs of violence and the body was likely to have been in there for some time.
Det Insp Dave Hickey said: "We are continuing to investigate how Jane came to be where she was found. We are looking into whether this was through dying elsewhere and being taken to the site, or having gone up there for some reason, maybe connected to prostitution, and being left there."
The 29-year-old widowed mum-of-one, who was also known as Jane Kelly, had been missing from her home in Queen Victoria Road, Burnley, since March 31.
Two 38-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of murder last month.
One was bailed, from which he is expected to be released and the other released without charge.
