FIREFIGHTERS battled for almost an hour to control flames and thick black smoke after arsonists set alight two scrapped cars and a pile of tyres.
The blaze spread to a unit at Burnley Road MoT centre, off Thornley Avenue, Whitebirk, Blackburn, where the cars were stored, causing smoke damage to the property.
The fire gutted the cars and 20 tyres were also destroyed in the blaze, started at about 7.40pm on Tuesday just ten minutes after the owners had left for the day.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Blackburn fire station on 01254 52111, or Blackburn police on 01254 51212.
