STUDENTS at Darwen Moorland High School have produced food fit for celebrity chef Jamie Oliver during a cookery competition.
The pupils scooped first prize at the annual inter-schools cookery competition at Blackburn College.
Judges Barbara Clapton, the ex-head of technology at St Wilfrids High School, and Linda Marr, a freelance home economist, chose year ten students Sammy Wilks and Katie Ormston from Moorland High School as the winners after they competed against four other schools.
They each received a trophy, £25, £7 in WH Smith gift vouchers and a cookery book.
The students were tasked with making a healthy and interesting meal which Jamie Oliver would have approved of.
It had to be a three-course meal with an option of a hot or cold dessert for two people on a budget of only £15 and within a time limit of two hours.
The inter-schools cookery competition has been running for 16 years at Blackburn College and is open to year nine and ten students from all the local secondary schools.
Judge Barbara Clapton said, "The standard of food produced by the students was as high as ever and judging the competition has been a difficult task.
"This type of competition is a fantastic way of encouraging and developing young people's skills and enthusiasm. Jamie Oliver would be proud to sit down and eat any of the meals made here today."
