A 91-year-old Accrington woman died two weeks after an operation on a fractured hip.
An inquest heard that Mary Elizabeth Edmundson had fallen at her home in Water Street, while using a walking frame.
Following a hip screw operation her condition continued to deteriorate.
Pathologist Dr Mark Sissons said Mrs Edmundson had died of heart failure but the operation had contributed.
Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of accidental death.
