AN esteemed Burnley writer whose books charted the history of the town has died aged 92.
John Titus Thornber was born in Brooklands Road in 1913 to a family of cotton manufacturers and he went on to study at Manchester University.
After a career working for Vickers in Manchester and Mullard in Burnley, Mr Thornber wrote several books, including one on the Packhorse Trails and walks in the South Pennines.
He is survived by children John and David, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are still to be made.
