A BLACKBURN man was killed when a van he was driving was sliced in two in an accident on the M6 in Staffordshire.
The man, due to be identified today, was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger in his vehicle was seriously injured.
The pair were travelling with a third man in a grey Escort van on the northbound carriageway of the M6, between Wolverhampton and Cannock, when the van collided with a black Mercedes car at 3.45am on Saturday.
Paramedics attended but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where he was today in a serious condition.
The northbound carriageway, near Junction 11, was shut off for more than six hours as police cleared the wreckage.
An investigation into how the collision occurred is being carried out by officers from the Central Motorway Police Group supported by specialist officers from Staffordshire Police.
The Coroner for Staffordshire South has been informed of the death and an inquest was due to be opened today.
