WE'D been meaning to try the New Inns ever since it recently came under new ownership.
So, after a two and a half hour walk at Ingleton and an hour's drive back to East Lancashire we were ravenous and it seemed the perfect opportunity for a taste test.
After more than 40 minutes waiting for our meals to arrive despite us being the only diners there I would have pretty much eaten anything.
My Mediterranean tagliatelle consisted of a handful of lukewarm pasta, five slices of over-cooked aubergine, a single chunk of red onion, a few pieces of courgette and some tomatoes.
While the garlic bread accompanying it looked quite appetising, I doubt it would have protected me against even the most feeble of vampires.
My other half's meal looked much more appetising. The Cajun Chicken sizzler certainly lived up to its name and was spitting sauce all over the place. Unfortunately it looked much more lively than it tasted as he said the sauce was bland.
The company website boasts of "quality and good value home cooking" but at £7.95 for my dish and £8.95 for my other half's I feel where value is concerned I would beg to disagree.
The New Inns is a warm and welcoming pub, in a great location, and is perfect for a relaxing drink. As for the food, hopefully I just got there on a bad day and maybe on another occasion things would have been different.
