AN ADVENTURER who has scaled Everest is looking forward to his next challenge a Borneo jungle adventure with Blackburn Rovers legend Simon Garner.

And Alex Guy said that compared to altitude sickness and deep snow on the world's tallest mountain, braving wild animals and tropical weather will be a breeze.

Alex, 22, from Hoddlesden, is part of Simon's four-man team raising money for charity by taking part in the nine-day Borneo challenge in May.

He is being joined by Evening Telegraph reporter Gavin Gibbon and former Blackburn man Simon Barnes, 39, from Cleveleys, competing against teams led by former pro footballers to raise money for the charity Children Today.

Alex, a former pupil of Queen Elizabeths Grammar School in Blackburn, is in a gap year working with people who have learning difficulties before he starts his job as a lawyer in Sheffield in September.

His Everest challenge raised money for the Rosemere Foundation in memory of his dad, Richard who died of cancer in 2000 aged 49.

He said: "I was reading a story in the Telegraph and saw Simon was appealing for people to join his team. To be honest, after Everest I thought it would be easy but it looks like it's going to be hard work."

The event, organised by the PFA aims to raise more than £100,000. Simon Barnes is a freelance IT consultant and has been a season ticket holder at Rovers for the three years. He is originally from the South but lived in Blackburn for 20 years, in Wilpshire and latterly in Nuttall Street near Ewood Park.

And he revealed it was his friendship with the captain that saw him join the team.

He said: "In a distant way I'm related to Simon because his son is getting married to my stepdaughter Emma and they have a little daughter together."
