POLICE have seized £250,000 worth of drugs in Burnley in just three months.

And today officers fired a warning to anyone dealing in the borough and insisted that they would be locked up.

So far this year as part of the Burnley Residents Against Drugs (BRAD) scheme, officers have recovered numerous substances, including hard drugs such as heroin, crack cocaine and amphetamine.

Officers have carried out a raid a day across the town in a zero-tolerance crackdown on people peddling drugs.

Inspector Damian Darcy said: "This is a very good result and will have a substantial impact on drug dealing in the Burnle area.

"I am telling you now if you deal drugs in this town you will go to prison."

The figures obtained by the Evening Telegraph come just a week after police recovered the single biggest ever seizure of cannabis in Lancashire, worth £180,000, at a house in Hillary Street.

Since January officers have carried out 75 drugs raids, including 20 last week; made 82 arrests for offences including possession and supplying drugs, money laundering as well as theft and burglary, and recovered a host of weapons including samurai swords, knives and machetes.

A £48,000 Range Rover and £30,000 in cash have also been seized in the raids.

Last month 16 people were jailed for 38 years between them following busts in Burnley Wood as part of Operation Nimrod, a Lancashire-wide drive targeting drug dealers.

Insp Darcy said that in the latest operation nobody had been jailed yet but added many people were currently going through the courts on variius charges.

He added: "We are not resting on our laurels the community are up in arms about people dealing drugs and we are reacting to their concerns.

"We are taking the fight to people we suspect of committing crimes and the message is clear criminal behaviour will not be tolerated.""

Brian Fenn, chairman of Burnley Wood Action Group said: "This is excellent news."
