A WOMAN was given a suspended jail sentence after attacking a soldier's wife when the couple were on a night out.

The victim was left with blood pouring from her broken nose, a court was told.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Julie Perry accepted punching Haley Wallbank to the floor and then kicking her in the head during the early morning incident in Blackburn town centre.

Perry, 36, of Holmbrook Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mrs Wallbank. She was sentenced to 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to do 150 hours community punishment and pay £300 compensation to her victim.

Claire Fanning, prosecuting, said Mrs Wallbank and her husband, who live in Germany, were visiting Blackburn.

They had been out in the town centre and at about 2am she became separated from her husband and went looking for him.

"At that point she saw five females leaving Bar Life and asked if they had seen her husband," said Miss Fanning. "The next thing she recalls is lying on the floor being kicked in the face."

Sian Hall, defending, said Perry was genuinely remorseful for what had happened.
