Anyone only familiar with The Knife's electronic calypso-indie single Pass It On from last summer might be a little surprised at the dark direction this latest album takes.
Those familiar with the reclusive Swedish siblings' politics, and their unwillingness to co-operate with the media, play live, or even appear in person without wearing frankly disturbing masks could have guessed that the duo weren't going to remain happy with winning the Best Pop Act award at the Swedish Grammis Awards for long.
Silent Shout is a very electronic album and frequently distorts singer Karin Dreijer's almost Bjork-like voice she also provided the vocal on Royksopp's What Else Is There? into disturbing frequencies that are appropriate to the subject matter.
Lyrical themes include fear, disappointment, nightmares and childhood paranoia, and the music is simultaneously catchy, monotone and grimly inventive.
Released March 27, 2006.
