YOUNGSTERS from a Pendle school have done their bit to brighten up a park in Nelson.

Children from Walverden Primary School, have for the second time, help to plant shrubs in Walverden Park in a bid to keep the site looking attractive.

The children, along with park rangers and the Friends of Walverden Park have planted a variety of shrubs for the first time this year.

The Friends of Walverden Park organised the event in conjunction with Pendle Council in an effort to continue to involve children in the upkeep of Pendle's parks, to keep them interested and to show them that keeping the park looking nice can be fun.

Councillor Mahboob Ahmed, executive member for parks, said: "Events like these are a great opportunity for the community to get involved in keeping Pendle's parks looking as good as they possibly can.

"It also gives people in the area a chance to see and hear about how the parks are maintained and what part they can play in keeping them clean and tidy and that it can be fun."

Keith Chadwick, Chair of the Friends of Walverden Park, said: "This is a further step forward in achieving some of our aims for regenerating the park with the involvement of Walverden School."
