A CLITHEROE postman who captured two sleeping horses on camera will see his snap published in a charity book.

Peter Ryan, who works in the town's delivery office, was among 1,300 Royal Mail employees who submitted more than 20,000 photographs for the book, entitled Unseen UK.

The best 240 images were selected for the final 234-page publication, which will raise money for the Royal Mail's chosen charity Help the Hospices.

Peter, 55, of Derby Street, Clitheroe, has been a postie for 23 years and currently delivers post to Gisburn. It was during his regular rounds that he spotted a picture perfect opportunity.

He said: "I was on my round and I saw these horses lying down in a field near Gisburne Park Hospital. I was really pleased with the picture and am delighted it's been chosen for this book.

"I've been taking pictures for years, mainly of Clitheroe Football Club which is my passion in life, but this is the first time I've got anything published."

The book takes the form of a journey around the UK, seen through the eyes of the nation's postmen and women. Royal Mail gave any postmen interested in taking part free disposable cameras and paid for the pictures to be developed.

The book, priced £20 plus postage and packing, is available on the Royal mail order lone on 08457 640 640.
