ON a miserable, cold night it is amazing what a welcoming sight some bright lights shining through the darkness can be.

In my weekly quest to find a takeaway to review I found myself driving along Whalley Range when I reacted to the lights of the Tandoori Oven like a moth to a flame.

It is both a restaurant and takeaway and, with its marble-like floors and intricate coving, looks as though a great deal of care has been taken over the decor.

The menu has to be one of the more limited ones I have come across but that doesn't mean you should rule it out. A few dishes done consistently well will beat a wide range of badly-cooked dishes any time.

I opted for lamb channa and chicken karahi, but served with naan. Rice is not an option. With sauce and salad the bill came to £10.

The meals are prepared in the back kitchen so, unfortunately, you don't get to share in the culinary experience and I did have to wait around 15 to 20 minutes.

But back home, although the portions weren't the largest, the food was extremely tasty.

My lamb dish featured succulent pieces of lamb served with chick peas and a subtle sauce with a variety of spices.

The chicken dish was again well spiced without being "evil" and was pronounced a success.
