LINDSAY Hoyle is calling for action to ensure East Lancashire pensioners get to travel free on buses.

The Chorley MP wants all 12 district councils in Lancashire to unite over pensioner bus travel.

From April this year all pensioners will be able to travel free on buses during off-peak hours thanks to Government funding.

Presently the bus pass will allow a pensioner to travel free within the borough boundaries of where they live.

However, if all the councils agreed, they would be able to travel across boundaries.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has already agreed a scheme with Bolton and entered talks with Chorley and Hyndburn, although Ribble Valley wants to assess the success of its borough-wide scheme.

Mr Hoyle today urged them to do just that.

He said: "I would like to see pensioners get the maximum benefit from this scheme and the further they can travel on buses the more useful the pass will be."
