A FORMER vice-chairman arrested following alleged fraud and deception at Clitheroe FC is also being investigated over thefts from Barclays Bank.

Mark Gidlow was arrested last week after a complaint was made by committee members at Clitheroe Football Club, where the 44-year-old was previously vice chairman.

But it has now been revealed that he is also under investigation for alleged offences during his time employed by Barclays Bank.

He was interviewed at Greenbank police station, in Blackburn, for eight hours before being released on police bail.

As well as being manager for a time at the Burnley branch, it is understood Gidlow also worked in other branches across East Lancashire. He parted company with the bank last year.

A spokeswoman for Barclays said: "We cannot comment because it is in police hands and we wouldn't want to interfere with their investigations."

Clitheroe FC, who currently lie in 16th place with 34 points, has been operating for almost 130 years but was close to collapse just a few months ago.

According to club officials the Unibond League Division One side was only saved because of success enjoyed in cup competitions, particularly the FA Trophy.

Detective Constable Adrian McHugh said: "I can confirm that a man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a number of theft and deception-related offences.

"He has now been released on police bail to allow further inquiries into these allegations."

Gidlow is due to be questioned by police again on March 31.
