Baltimore trio Spank Rock's new single sounds nothing like the work of legendary producer Rick Rubin, who has produced artists as varied as Run DMC, Slipknot and Shakira. But this track is just as diverse.
Fusing hip hop, electronica, grime, tribal beats and arcade-game tomfoolery, Rick Rubin is a mass of audio commotion and sonic brilliance.
B-sides include a pared down President Evil remix, featuring 5Deez member Pase Rock, a dramatic electro remix from producer XXXchange and a delightfully brutal avant garde bonus track, Girls and Boys.
Fans of straightforward hip hop should be wary. Those of us who like something a little different will be counting the seconds until Spank Rock's debut album arrives.
Released February 20, 2006.
