IF you think the only dance nights you get at Blackburn's King George's Hall involve a DJ called Skippy and the finest selection of musical cheese going, then it is time to think again!
Darwen DJ Paul Calvy is hoping to turn Blackburn's main venue into the must-attend place to be on April 8.
He is launching a new night, Curious Hi-Fi, in The Studio, an intimate room which holds around 200 people and until recently was home to the Lock n' Load comedy night.
Offering a mix of Funky and Electro sounds, Paul and fellow East Lancashire DJ John Bennett who recently played on the same bill as Xpress-2 at Manchester's Sankey's Soap hope to bring a different crowd into Blackburn.
Paul said: "This is the sort of music people travel into Manchester to find and I'm sure, from talking to people locally, that there is a big enough market in Blackburn to sustain this event once a month and bring in those who otherwise wouldn't come here.
"There are some great nights in Manchester, but people shouldn't have to travel just to listen to the music they enjoy."
Paul isn't just talking as someone who goes out in Manchester but as somone very much involved with the city's club scene.
He's been part of a night called Upstage at The Attic in Oxford Road which has attracted a variety of big names, including Cream and Amnesia residents Lee Ellis and Anthony Probyn.
Paul said: "Initally we want to establish the residents, myself and John, and then start bringing some names in.
"The guest DJs we are hoping for are the ones with a buzz about them but who are still stars for the future.
"They are the ones people will turn out for and the ones people will travel for.
"We'll put in our own soundsystem for the night which will be state of the art. It's something new for Blackburn."
Tickets for the night, 10pm to 3am, cost £7 plus booking fee. They are available from King George's Hall box office, telephone 01254 582582
