NELSON councillors have put £10,000 towards improvements to the town's war memorial.
Andy Ashworth, from the Nelson branch of the Royal British Legion, asked councillors for the cash to fund the refurbishment, and re-siting, of the memorial to create a more fitting tribute to those who died in the two World Wars. Coun Mohammed Iqbal proposed Nelson Committee used cash from its capital programme to fund the work.
He said: "We have a £50,000 surplus. Can I move we allocate £10,000 out of this year's budget towards the war memorial, as outlined by the British Legion. Let's get cracking with this."
