THE decision about what to have from a takeaway is always a difficult one. But I think that this week's location the Oriental Star has taken the dilemma to a new level, offering well over 300 choices on the menu.
Thankfully I had had a menu pushed through the door, allowing me to ponder at length in the comfort of my own home without holding up any queues.
Although primarily a Chinese, the Oriental Star also offers a range of Thai dishes and some English ones for the less adventurous.
Eventually I settled on the chicken in lemon sauce, while the better half opted for the hot and spicy king prawns.
A portion of boiled rice to share took the bill, including delivery, to £11.40.
Lemon chicken should, in theory, be a perfect combination. The tangy sauce should blend well with the tender chicken to provide a nice contrast.
But how often have you ordered it, only for it to arrive as a gloopy mess?
Thankfully, the Oriental Star clearly knows how to do the dish and it was as enjoyable as it should be.
A nice bonus was the sliced vegetables and pineapple which had been added to the dish.
The king prawns were equally well received, with sliced vegetables being added to the thick sauce, which gave plenty of "kick" without being offensive.
Very often an abundance of choice can mean a lack of quality. However, the Oriental Star appears to have got the balance just right.
