TERRIFIC teen Laura Seymour has been named as Lancashire's Young Citizen of the Year after years of work as an ambassador for young people.
The 16-year-old spends much of her time mentoring pupils at Morecambe High School, where she is studying for her A' Levels.
She has supported fellow pupils with personal issues and local problems for years and recently joined the local Young Persons Crime Prevention Panel.
Now her dedication to helping others has paid off with the top county honour.
Laura was singled out at a ceremony last week for her 'hard work, outstanding attitude and contribution to the school and community'.
But the modest Morecambe youngster says: "I can't believe I have won this award, it's absolutely mind-blowing.
"I think there are too many negative stereotypes of young people because there are a lot of people my age who good work - so to win this award is wonderful."
Laura was nominated by PC Kath Bromilow who told the Citizen: "She is an ambassador for young people. Some who had previously strayed are now back on track thanks to Laura.
"She is an amazing character and must be an inspiration for many young people - a perfect Young Citizen of the Year."
Laura received her award from Lancashire police's acting chief constable Steve Finnigan and football legend Jimmy Armfield, the High Sheriff of Lancashire.
Mr Armfield says: "A competition like this demonstrates just how many special young citizens we have in Lancashire."
