Two women were attacked by an intruder with an iron bar at a house in Craven Street in Accrington.
A 23-year-old suffered a fractured cheekbone and her friend, a 45-year-old woman, had four ribs broken.
Both needed hospital treatment after the incident at just after 11pm on Monday night. Police said the attacker, described as a stocky, dark-skinned man, forced his way into the house.
He was 5ft 10in, with dark hair, a crooked nose and wore a balaclava.
