RIBBLE Valley MP Nigel Evans today called for the police to track down and prosecute the weekend Muslim demonstrators waving placards calling for the execution of those who insulted Islam.

The Tory backbencher criticised the Metropolitan Police for the failure to arrest and prosecute the demonstrations at the time as they condemned the publication in Europe of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad.

Mr Evans said: "The police need to be even-handed about this. It is wrong for people to be racist but they need to track down the people involved in this demonstration and arrest them.

"It was ridiculous that they were not arrested at the weekend demonstrations.

"Some of those placards were clearly incitement to murder.

"That is a very serious offence."
