AN evening which started with a family settling down in front of the TV ended with two brothers being arrested and their mother being rushed to hospital.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Luke Rothwell and Maxwell Toole ended up "beating the living daylights" out of each other after drinking whisky.
And when their mother, who suffers from depression, could take no more she went upstairs and took an overdose.
The court heard that the brothers called paramedics who, in turn, called police after seeing the aftermath of the fight and fearing it may continue.
Rothwell, 20, and Toole, 31, of Irvine Close, Blackburn, admitted a breach of the peace and were each bound over in £100. Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said their quiet night in had been anything but.
"They started drinking whisky and ended up displaying anything but brotherly love.
"Fortunately, there is no continuing animosity. They accept the family feud got a little out of hand," he added.
