THE dreams of a darts-mad disabled boy have come true thanks to staff at King George's Hall, Blackburn.

Kallum Holland, nine, of Whalley Road, Clitheroe, who was born without any lining on the brain, leaving him severely brain damaged, likes nothing more than watching a good game of arrows.

And when his parents Katie and Danny heard the 2006 Holstein Premier League Darts was starting the series in Blackburn they immediately applied for tickets, only to be left disappointed. Or so they thought.

Katie explained: "We were watching darts at Christmas on TV.

"We went to get tickets straight away because we knew it would be really popular. But all they had left were balcony tickets and because of health and safety they weren't allowed wheelchairs up there.

"We were very upset, our son was born with severe brain damage leading to a number of problems, but his one love in life is darts, whether it's throwing them or watching them."

But staff from King George's Hall stepped in with not just one ticket, but three front row seats, so Kallum can cheer on his heroes Phil "The Power" Taylor and Wayne "Hawaii 501" Mardle. Katie added: "As we were leaving, a girl in the box office said we could leave our number. Then just 10 days later we had a phone call. Not only were there tickets but it was the front table with disabled seating.

"We rushed over to collect the tickets but more surprises were waiting. We were entitled to a free carer's ticket and we were told of all the arrangements for disabled people. The staff had thought of everything."

Kallum, who attends White Ash School, Oswaldtwistle, is confined to a wheelchair, unable to speak and has the level of understanding of an 18-month-old.

Katie added: "He's always liked darts. I don't know what it is about them. It's not like it's really exciting, most kids find it boring watching two grown men throwing darts at a board for hours but Kallum loves it.

"He'll cheer no matter what the score and he signals for quiet when they're about to play."

A spokesman for King George's Hall said: "We always do our best to look our customers and are very pleased Kallum will get the opportunity to watch world class darts in Blackburn."
