PLANS to transform part of Rakehead Recreation Ground into a car park for Burnley General Hospital will be discussed tonight.
Councillors at this evening's executive meeting will be asked to agree to the sale of part of the recreation ground to create extra parking spaces around the hospital, which is short of parking space.
Burnley Health Care NHS Trust wants to pull down the children's play area and turn it into a 90-space car park. Money from the sale of the land to the hospital would be used to create a new play area and keep some of the grassed area.
The sale would raise around £100,000 which could be spent improving the rest of the recreation ground.
However residents are objecting to the plans.
The council executive is recommended to agree to sell the play area and car park, subject to planning approval.
