A MAN diagnosed with cancer in October died a month later as a result of a massive tumour, an inquest was told.
But the inquest heard that the growth that killed John Terry was not related to asbestos exposure, as had been suspected.
Pathologist Dr Richard Prescott said it was one of the forms of lung cancer associated with smoking.
Christine Terry, of Devonshire Drive, Clayton-le-Moors, told the inquest her husband, a retired joiner, had not worked directly with asbestos but would have been exposed to it and that was why doctors had suspected a malignant mesothelioma.
Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of natural causes.
