A RISHTON man is in hospital suffering from a suspected broken jaw after an assault near his home early on Tuesday.
Police said the 43-year-old, who is receiving treatment for his head injuries in Blackburn Royal Infirmary, was attacked by a man using a blunt weapon.
He is said to be in a stable condition and police hope to talk to him about the assault as soon as possible.
A 23-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at 12.45am in Spring Street near its junction with Shuttleworth Street.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward and Detective Sergeant Joanne Lightbown said: "The victim appears to have quite serious injuries and we want to make every effort to ascertain what has gone on."
