JUST yesterday, I bumped into Burnley legend Brian Miller in town. "Any news on Ade?" was his opening gambit.
It seems even someone with a half a century of involvement with the Clarets was as desperate for daily updates as the rest of us!
Well today we know, beyond any question, that Sheffield United look to have whisked away our main man. Which leaves me to question what the effect Ade moving to Bramall Lane might have in the Turf Moor stands.
The mutterings of discontent grew into a crescendo in the past week as everyone weighed up the pros and cons. Some understandably felt that over £1.5m for a 31-year-old makes economic sense, given the fact we would more nearly treble what we paid Stoke less than a year ago.
Bear in mind that's not the whole story. On top of the £600,000 we paid, there's Ade's wages to consider and that probably took the amount closer to £1million. However, that does little to alleviate the way fans will be feeling today.
My stance is exactly the same as it was last week: selling your number one asset after the ground itself shows a worrying lack of ambition something that fans of Burnley Football Club cling to. And with planning already at a detailed stage to ask those fans to cough up several hundreds of pounds for next year's season tickets, there has to be a worry that the 8,500 sold last year could fall further.
We are currently losing £20,000 per week, forcing the sale of another key player to top up the coffers. So losing more disgruntled, disillusioned fans would be an unmitigated disaster as Steve Cotterill continues to battle to keep the club afloat and his own head above water.
