POLICE investigating the death of a man found close to a moorland reservoir above Burnley are appealing for help to trace his mystery last movements.
Walkers discovered David Caine, 23, from Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, slumped next to a wall by Clowbridge Reservoir, Manchester Road, on January 15.
Detectives cordoned off the area after the grim find while forensic tests took place. But police are not treating the death as suspicious.
However, detectives want help to trace Mr Caine's green VW Polo saloon, registration X149NNW so that they can try and piece together what happened to him after he disappeared from his home.
Mr Caine was last seen in the car in West Yorkshire, but no trace of the vehicle has been found anywhere near the spot where his body was found.
Det Insp Sam Birtwell, of Burnley CID, said: "The location of this car is unknown and we would ask the public to assist the police in finding the vehicle.
"If anyone has any information they should call their local police station or the police at Burnley.
"Although we are not treating this death as suspicious we are trying to establish how Mr Caine spent the four days between his disappearance and death so that we can offer the family some explanation of what has happened."
An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned.
An inquest opened on Friday by East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor heard Mr Caine had been missing from his home for four days.
