CHILDREN in Hoddlesden and Darwen are invited to join a project commemorating hundreds of workers.
Darwen Millennium Green Youth Committee has organised a scheme to install a clay sculpture featuring 350 individual faces on the Green.
Each face will represent a former employee of Places Pipeworks which was based on the site until 1950.
Now residents can play a part by creating their own clay face which will be included in the sculpture.
Workshops, run by artist Jane Lim, will be held at the Carus Centre, Hoddlesden, on January 22 and 29, between 1 and 5pm. It is open to adults and children.
Committee member Lynn Schofield said: "We are trying to make in excess of 300 faces.
Shaws of Darwen have donated the clay and are going to glaze the sculpture so it is the same colour as the pipes that were made there.
"They are going to fire them for us too which is good of them."
It is hoped the finished product will be in place by March, when it is anticipated that a new history and nature trail will also be completed.
