A DARWEN man who assaulted another man and left him unconscious has been jailed for a year.
Mazer Alshmery, 29, of Crosshill Road, was found guilty by a jury of assaulting Saleh Farhan causing him actual bodily harm.
It was alleged that Alshmery had gone to Mr Farhan's home uninvited and assaulted him at his own front door in Earl Street, Blackburn.
The assault also continued in the street in front of shocked members of the public.
"It was a prolonged incidence of violence which resulted in him sustaining a number of injuries and being unconscious until the police arrived," Judge Stuart Baker told Alshmery.
"This was serious and wholly unjustified piece of violence towards another person in a public place."
Judge Baker jailed him for a year, adding: "Only a prison sentence can properly mark the seriousness of what you have done."
Roger Green, defending, said Alshmery did not deny that he was involved in a fight in the street. The issue for the jury was how it started.
Something was said to the defendant in a conversation that caused him to act in the way that he did.
