RESIDENTS in Burnley are being called on to help mould the long-term future of the borough's newest park.
A £400,000 park is currently being built in Burnley Wood as part of the multi-million Elevate programme which will see the borough's neigh-bourhoods transformed.
Now the council is organising an open day on Wednesday to let residents have their say and get involved in the future of the park.
Executive member for the environment, Coun Denis Otter, said he wanted the park to last as long as Thompson Park which last year celebrated its 75th anniversary.
He said: "We want this park to last just as long, so the young people of today will be able to walk through this park with their children, their grandchildren and their great grandchildren.
"For this to happen, we really need the support of the local community."
The neighbourhood park will feature new floodlit ball courts, CCTV and an area for outside events.
Residents who attend the St Stephen's Church event will be invited to give as little or as much time as they want to the future of the park.
People can sign up to be kept up to date with events or help organise fun days. The park is set to be completed in the spring.
