A MOTORIST was rescued from his burning car by a passer by after it lost control and crashed into a house.
Today a husband and wife spoke of their shock when they were woken by the crash which shook their home.
Keith and Kath Scott were asleep when the red Ford Escort estate ploughed into the side of their house in Hud Hey Road, on the corner of Brook Street, Haslingden, at 3am yesterday.
Mr Scott, 57, said that when he went downstairs to phone the police the impact had pushed the phone socket out of the wall.
He added the pair looked out of the window to find a man smashing the car's windows to rescue the driver.
Mrs Scott, 55, said: "He was shouting get out, get out it's on fire'.
"All the front of the car was squashed and he couldn't open the front doors, so he kicked the window in.
"They were trying to keep the driver still, he had blood over his face and was disorientated."
The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Fairfield Hospital, Bury, with chest and head injuries.
Mr and Mrs Scott said they were unable to open a door in their living room as a result of the crash.
Mrs Scott said: "It is fortunate it's a solid house because if it was a new one he would have been in the house."
Her husband added: "One of the stones have been pushed in and the pillars on the window are out of line.
"The side of the house needs rebuilding it will be impossible for us to live here."
