SPORTS students at Burnley College got the chance to put one over on their tutors at a festive fun-day held at the Thompson Centre.

Organised by students studying for the BTEC National Diploma in sports development and fitness, the event aimed to raise money for Sports Relief' and buckets were on hand to collect cash.

Student teams took on the staff team Too Many Clowns' in a tournament consisting of several rounds including a tug-of-war, a blindfolded obstacle course and a gym mat sliding competition.

Members of staff wore an array of fancy dress including a Christmas elf, cow-girls, a 118-118 man and even a reindeer.

The tutors were soundly beaten by every single student team and head of sport Karen McLean said that she was pleased with how the event went.

She said: "The students organised the day by themselves and it was a great success.

"It allowed them to develop a number of skills such as their planning and organisational abilities.

"I definitely think the students enjoyed the opportunity to beat their tutors."
