A BURNLEY doctor has been made an MBE in the New Year's Honours for his work in the community.
Dr Walter Duncan Park, 68, of St Matthew Street, was one of ten people across East Lancashire to receive gongs in the honours list.
But the modest doctor said there were hundreds of others more deserving than himself.
Dr Park's work includes acting as chair of the police's independent advisory group and vice-chair of the police forum for lesbians and gays in East Lancashire.
He said: "I was astounded to have been nominated, although it is a very pleasant surprise.
"There are hundreds of people more deserving than me, I just get on with doing what I do, but I hope the award will help the groups I work with get some positive publicity."
