Football fans can bid for two shirts worn by players of Barnet FC during their game against Manchester United in October to raise money for two funds.

Toney Winter, 15, a pupil at East Barnet School, died after being hit by a high-speed train on October 18 at Bakers Hill, Hadley Wood. His mother, Fiona Coggin, of Potters Road, Barnet, wants to raise money for a youth club she believes would have kept Toney, who she described as a helpful, happy-go-lucky kid', off the streets.

"There's nowhere for kids to go," she said. "There needs to be at least two youth clubs in the Barnet area to keep them occupied, but everything has been taken away from them."

Money raised will also be donated to a fund for Martine Wright, a marketing director originally from Edgware, who lost her legs in the July 7 London bombings.

In addition to the sales of the limited edition black and purple shirts usually black and amber which are signed by all members of Barnet's first team, a fundraiser is taking place at the Edgware Royal British Legion in Parnell Close, Edgware, on Saturday, although tickets for this have sold out.

Sealed bids for the shirts should be sent to 29 Dalmeny Road, New Barnet, EN5 1DE, marked signed shirt bid'. Donations can also be sent to the above address, marked either Toney Winter memorial fund' or Martine Wright fund'. For more details, call Janet Matthewson on 07984 887789.
